Nikolai braced his elbow on the step and lifted himself slightly, aware that moving too quickly might cause River some discomfort pressed against the stairs as she was. “Are you okay?” He had no doubt she’d be feeling battered and bruised.

“Perfect.”

He chuckled when he saw the Cheshire cat smile that curled her lips. “Perfect, huh?”

“Shhh.” She grinned wider; eyes closed. “I’m still in the moment.”

He couldn’t help it, he leaned down to run his tongue along her jaw in a teasing motion. “Yeah? Well, I’m still in you.” He proved it by tilting his hips just a little and groaned when his teasing backfired, and she thrust gently toward him. “Jesus, River, what you do to me is insanity.” He shivered.

“Insane looks good on you,” she purred. Then reached up with her mouth to trace his jaw with her lips just as he’d done to her. The effect on him was powerful. “I look good on you,” she breathed against his cheek.

Nikolai turned his head to sweep her mouth into a long, slow, delicious kiss. “It sure as hell feels good inside you.” He lifted his head, kissed her forehead softly. “We should probably get ourselves off the stairs though and out of these coats.”

River chuckled. “Yeah. As good as this feels right now, it’s probably gonna hurt like hell tomorrow.”

He felt her hips relax.

“Maybe a nice, hot bath might do wonders for us both.” He was nuzzling the skin below her earlobe. She smelled unbelievably amazing.

She sighed and tipped her head to give him better access. “Are you offering? Cause I’m about to combust again if you keep that up.” As though to prove it, she arched her back and pulsed her hips just slightly, but it was more than enough to make him rock hard again inside her.

Nikolai groaned. Lowering his mouth to hers, he let his tongue trace the pillowy-softness of her bottom lip before delving inside. She was languid and soft against him, her body molded to him perfectly. Lifting his head just enough to nuzzle the tip of her nose with his, he found himself lost in the green depths of her eyes. Her breath huffed against his lips as he moved slowly inside of her. She lifted her hands to tangle her fingers in his hair and he turned his head, placing a kiss on the underside of her wrist. He gathered her to him, protecting her back and shoulders from the hardness of the stairs. It amazed him how she could be so tiny and yet fit him so perfectly. As though she were made just for him.

And she owned him, body and soul, he realized. Even if she turned her back on him. Even if she denied the wolf that was a part of him. She still owned him. The knowledge was humbling.

Their breaths mingled with each drawn out movement that brought him deeper inside her and closer to the peak. And as they both tipped over the edge together, he heard her breath catch in her throat, and then she kissed him.
